The Gallery of Splendour, devoted to displaying the palace’s history in a series of paintings, was set out in the papal apartments. In 1863, on the ground floor of the Great Pavilion, a Chinese Museum was founded with objects brought
from Beijing by General Palikao. A great many of the exhibits came from the Chinese Emperor’s summer palace. |
