The Kitchen or Henri IV courtyard The Kitchen Courtyard (1606-1609) is surrounded on three sides by alternating high and low buildings with sandstone, brick and quarry stone fronting, whose most remarkable elements are the central pavilion of the southern wing, with its curved façade, and the grand entrance to the north. The buildings of the Kitchen Courtyard housed the officers' pantries and living quarters. The courtyard itself served as the entrance area where court members who were not of noble blood, marshals or ambassadors, were required to leave their coaches or dismount, before entering the Oval Courtyard. |
La cour des offices dite cour Henri IV La cour des Offices (1606-1609) est entourée sur trois côtés de bâtiments, en grès, brique et moellon enduit, alternativement haut et bas, dont les parties les plus remarquables sont le pavillon central de l'aile méridionale, à la façade incurvée, et le grand portail d'entrée au nord. Les bâtiments de la cour des Offices abritaient les cuisines et les logements des officiers. La cour elle-même servait d'espace d'arrivée où les courtisans, s'ils n'étaient pas princes du sang, maréchaux ou ambassadeurs, devaient quitter leur carrosse o u abandonner leur monture, avant de pénétrer dans la cour Ovale.
