Il est très commun partout, mais absent des rives de la Méditerranée. Son bois fibreux a les mêmes usages que les autres peupliers. Les feuilles qui ont un pétiole aplati bruissent et s'agitent au moindre vent. L'arbre en tient son nom.

It can be readily encountered everywhere except on the Mediterranean coastline. Its fibrous wood is used much in the same way as all other Poplars. Because of their flattish leaf-stalks, Aspen leaves whisper and quiver at the slightest draft. The French name is reminiscent of this peculiarity.
